On Wednesday 10/30, RIAND members along with Academy representative Jeanne Blankenship, and students from Johnson and Wales University went to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's office to discuss bills that impact coverage for nutrition services. They met with one of his staff members who was very supportive of the bills and of nutrition services. The bills discussed were: Preventive Health Savings Act (H.R. 2584, S. 1361), Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (H.R. 1530, S. 595), Expanding Access to Diabetes Self Management Training (H.R. 1840, S. 814), and the Child Nutrition Reauthorization. The majority of these bills would allow Medicare recipients to have increased access to a RDN, which in turn can improve coverage from private insurance companies.
