American Dietetic Association Publishes Third Edition of Its Best-selling Consumer Nutrition Guide

CHICAGO - The public's most comprehensive and readable resource on healthful eating, from the nation's leading food and nutrition authority, has been updated to provide the latest in reliable, science-based information.

The third edition of the American Dietetic Association Complete Food and Nutrition Guide (John Wiley & Sons Inc., 2006), by registered dietitian Roberta L. Duyff, has been completely revised to reflect and explain the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In its more than 650 pages, the third edition contains both updated and entirely new information on many healthful eating and active living topics including:
- Your best and healthiest weight--what works, what doesn't.
- Women's health and nutrition, including breast cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia and menopause.
- Eating for healthy aging.
- Functional foods with health-promoting phytonutrients and antioxidant power.
- Use and abuse of dietary supplements.
- Food safety, preventing foodborne illness and disaster preparedness.
- Healthy fats, carbs and salt.
- Nutritious ethnic food choices and other strategies for dining out.
- Culinary savvy for healthy eating.
- Food allergies and intolerances, including celiac disease and gluten-free eating.
- Carbohydrates and the glycemic index.
- Eating for high performance in sports.
- Children's nutrition and guidance on healthy weight for kids.
- Making MyPyramid work for you.
- Going vegetarian.

With review from ADA experts, Duyff draws on the latest scientific research. Presented in an easy-to-read style, the book gives readers positive, practical information and guidelines they can use every day for themselves and their families.

"Nutrition information is everywhere. Not all of it is reliable," Duyff said. "The American Dietetic Association Complete Food and Nutrition Guide, on the other hand, can help you judge the headlines and separate fact from misinformation. This guide reflects current science-based advice, cuts through the complicated language of nutrition science and offers an easy-to-use resource on healthful eating, for every age and stage of life."
